I am so in love with these dresses from Hawaiian heaven

I am doing the bomshell dress course I had debated as to whether I could wear it until I saw these shrugs on their website, its perfect cover up and goes beautifully with the dress!

Thanks to a member of the sewing forum who showed me a pattern that is similar to the Hawaiian heaven's shrug which is view A of this pattern simplicity 2478 I cant wait to get started now

I finally made a dress using one of the vintage patterns that I was given, it took me ages trying to grade the patterns as sizes were 6 inches smaller than today's dress size!

It was the only picture I could find of me wearing the dress on Saturday night out with friends

I signed up for an online class taught by Gertie of Gerties blog for better sewing to learn how to make this bombshell dress and loving the course! She guides you through cutting up your pattern and making a muslin, to fitting the bodice and making the dress! I am loving her teaching style and everything is covered with clear tutorial videos and she answers any questions you may have. I signed up simply cos I love the 1950's dresses only ever did boning once for my eldest daughters formal dress but my goodness this course has showed me so much more tips and techniques for boning! I cant wait to start making this dress!

I love the 1950's dresses and coats, I was given this box of 1950's patterns last night, and they are gorgeous!! I cant wait to start my new winter wardrobe!! the sizing is amazing as a size 16 is a 36 bust! whereas now a size 16 is a 40" bust! I am in seventh heaven getting these patterns! the patterns were 3 shillings!!

One of my twin daughter is away to Cyprus for two weeks I made her a wash bag, make up bag and a small wristlet pure that can hold her Ifone, luggage tag and a passport cover. The passport cover is not shown as she took it before I could photograph it will get a pic of it when she gets back from her holidays!
The washbag was lined with pink shower curtains which I got from poundland!

She loved the purse and mobile holder as it is perfect for her holidays, it took me a while to work this one out as the first one I made was too small, it fits my phone so I drew a template of her I phone and using combined tutorials of make up bags etc I got this one and I am pleased with it and my other twin DD wants one for her holidays next month! she chose a completely different fabric from my stash.

after drawing a template and working round the size of her phone, I made this one for her and she loved it said it was the best invention ever to carry her phone inside her purse for her holidays with the choice of keeping the wristlet on or off and it is quite comfy to hold in your hand.

I was not planning on going to the auction last Thursday, there was only two items I liked one was a fire screen that folded down into a coffee table and the other was a narrow folding table but at 8.45pm I changed my mind and took a race over and I am so glad I did as I got the fire screen for £5 the folding table for £5 too! I had been after a fire screen for ages but kept getting out bidded , I guess last Thursday night no one was wanting one!

Folding table which is perfect for my sewing machine, it sits nice and flat when folded down. I am thinking of painting it and either stencilling it or decoupaging the top with roses.

I got this silver one in a charity shop for £1.99 it had a few scratches but I just loved the roses around the frame

Out came the spray gun and I painted them I used one for a photo of my son before his hair grew long! I have yet to get a picture of his long hair as he avoids the camera :-(

I have mislaid my gold rub and buff tube, I put it somewhere safe it is so safe that I cant find it! I wanted to use them on the roses.

I used the rose one for my darling late partners photo which was taken few weeks before he passed away suddenly. I painted the frame mount that his photo was in as it was black with gold stripes around it..when I find the gold rub and buff I will apply it on the roses,.

Bathroom makeover

I also picked up two mirrors at the auction for £6! perfect for my bathroom! at the weekend I decided to do a bathroom makeover which was long over due

My drawers unit the before pic... I hated the dark wood I bought it for £19.99 for both of them at argos 4 years ago.

the other mirror that i got along with the oval one £6 for both of them, yes that is my leg in my painting clothes and crocs lol

I went to the auction last week and saw this drinks cabinet and I thought it was perfect for storage and for my hall, the bidding started really low at £2 and I bidded on it and got it!!

I made the bracelet and earrings to go with the Rock dress, I have now removed the skull with wings, so that I can continue to wear it , there is mini skulls and music notes on the bracelet, and I could get away with wearing the earrings on a casual basis as the mini skulls are not noticeable. :-)

My DS ripped his favourite jeans last week, I felt I could do something with them, so when he asked me to make him a wallet and the jeans was perfect for it! I used .noodle-head' s tutorial

I used the pocket linings and unpicked the size label and sewed it back onto the wallet it made my son laugh, he was panicking because he thought I was going to use his shirts!! which is too small for him and he keeps saying they are not and insist on wearing them and knows that I am patiently waiting for him to finally give them up as they are gorgeous checked cotton prints!!

Cushion covers

I started off making a gingham patchwork quilt covers and failed miserably and ended up with these heart cushion covers for the sofa in my kitchen. I made them envelope style as I had no zips, I cut the heart fabrics using the cricut, I realise now I should have used wadding on the squares, but overall I am pleased at how they have turned out as I think they compliment the other two flag cushion covers I had made last month.
The smaller cushions were filled with Ikea's 70pence cushions so overall the five new cushion covers cost me £1.40 and fabric from my stash which I had hoarded over the years!!

I found a forgotten fabric stash in the back of the hot press!!

I am doing the happy dance!!!

I cleared out the hot press yesterday and there is a bag stuffed at the very back top shelf, usually I just leave it there but yesterday I got a stool and got it to see what was inside it, I actually shook when I saw what was in the bag!! It was these gorgeous fabrics!! I remember now buying them about 9 years ago from a USA eBay seller very cheaply as the £ was strong, with moving house twice I do not know how I could have forgotten about this stash!!

I am so excited I think I am going to make a quilted ken wood mixer cover with the Gingerbread one!

My Rock dress

I found a pic of me wearing the dress, made this dress using the top part of New Look 6980 dress pattern and the bottom part of New look 6966 dress pattern. I loved wearing this dress to a dear friends DH 50th which was Rock Themed. It was a great night out and the music was fantastic! ( rock chick in my teens and a closet one now lol) I am too old to wear it as as a dress as my DS so eloquently put it it I must be going through a mid life crisis if I think skulls and crossbones is lovely and that it would give him nightmares lol!! I also made earrings and bracelets to match the rock theme, I will try and take a photo of the jewellery.

I made two maxi dresses and a swing dress and two glasses case in the last 24 hours! I will try and get a photo of the maxi dress the rock chick swing dress is not photographed very well as it does not show the swing part of the skirt very well.

I spent the weekend painting the table and chairs (the £30 bargain from the auction) and a set of drawers which was a wedding present over 25 years ago I must take my hat off to those of you who paint it by hand!! I used a spray gun and painted it Farrow and Ball white tie emulsion then varnished it with water based varnish

I got the small tyrone crystal vase and dish on this drawers for £1 at the car boot sales yesterday!!

Patchwork cushions

I made these American and British flag cushions from fabric from my stash and even re used the zips from the old cushion covers, drew out the templates on wallpaper lining to size then cut out the pieces and sewed them together.

My first attempt which looked wrong and thanks to the ladies over at mse who pointed out it was because I had the white band going across the cross part of the flag

I went on to gumtree and spotted this mirror for £12! it was just listed an hour before, I rang them and it was still there, I flew up to Belfast to get it and I was one happy bunny! It is perfect for my hall.

A dear friend of mine spotted this at the car boot sale yesterday and thought of me she bought it for £2 I scrubbed one of the glass droplets and it came up clear! So I had a fantastic Sunday yesterday!

I went to the local auction and got this table and 6 chairs for £30!! I am painting it in Farrow and Ball white tie, I took my own birch table and high back leather chairs to the auction the next day and collected this table and chairs the guy who helped me to unload my own table and load up this table must have thought I was losing my marbles to swop a modern table and chairs for this one!!

I am tired of the modern look already and only had it for 3 years!! I will post an after pic as I am half way through painting this table and chairs.

I am struggling to find shabby chic material to make curtains and to cover the chairs with.

I am so sorry that I have neglected this blog!

I am sorry I have not blogged much in 2010, it was a bad year for me, with having the fire, then we had water damage which wrecked the kitchen ceiling and my new kitchen, the whole house got me down as it was all newly done only a couple of years ago. Workmen left just before Christmas and I finally got my home back!

I lost my mojo for most of the year but it is back again and I promise to keep this updated. This year I have been making jewellery and started on making wooden plaques, and loving the shabby chic look and also started sewing, there is just not enough hours in the day to do everything I want to!

I made this shelf sitter, I cut out a stencil using the cricut using base camp font and stenciled it on, sanded it down but forgot to check the stencil paint was dry so its a bit smudged! I really enjoyed making this! I just wish there was more hours in the day to cover everything I want to do!

Since the fire in the new year I lost my creative mojo until today, I did not make my ususal things as I wanted white pearly bracelet but could not afford them so I thought I would have a go at making one. I started making one using this chain that I had

this was the finished result 700+ beads pearls later only to find out that by adding so much beads and pearls to the chain I had made the bracelet too small!

so I took all apart again and used elastic added more pearls and I am quite pleased with it now!If i had have done it this way the first time I would have saved a couple of hours!!

Happy New year to everyone! I am sorry I have not blogged since before Christmas as my New year went off with a bang literally! A coal exploded in my open fire and burnt my two seattees, rug and floor and left my room black, Its an insurance job now and they have sent cleaners in and I have to get quotes for decorating, seattees floor etc.. which is a bit of hassle as it was only all new 18 months ago! Thankfully the kids were all in bed sleeping when it happened,

I have been "baking" towel cakes today.. the christmas one looks lopsided but it is straight in real life and the pamper cake both were made out of Marks and Spencer towel bale which was £7.50 for two bath towels, 2 hand towels and two face cloths. Christmas cake was made with one hand towel, one bath towel and one face cloth, the pamper cake was mde with one hand towel and one face cloth and spa pack was out of

After a few request on how to make this I am going to try and explain the best I can how to do this first download and print this file which I created for you to use PDF pencil unto card stock and score your first line just above the printed area..I am sorry this not professional but it was the only way I could figure it out.

One A4 cardstock printed will make two of these pencil boxes

After scoring the first line then score 7/8" from the first score line and every score line until the whole page is scored, score the sides as close as to the print out then cut the score lines at the side

Cut the sidesto the edge of the score lines and fold all the scored lines on the right sides trim all except for one as in pic below

then tape down the edges except for the long one

put glue or double sided tape on one edge and stick it down and tape the left side too

and now you are left with a box that looks like this

fold it over the box then trim off excess card

I hope this tutorial was easy enough to follow.

Easy way to turn out Sock Monkey tail and arms

I am addicted to making the sock monkeys but I didnt enjoy turning out tails and arms and stuffing them as it is fidgetty, then I remembered years ago when I made a raggedy doll I was shown how to turn out the skinny legs and tried it with the sock monkey and it worked!! I tried it to stuff it using the hollow tube and found it so much easier and quicker! I thought I would share it with you. I hope the pictures and my instructions is be easy to follow.

supplies needed one hollow tube,mine is about 19mm and a stick

step one

hollow tube and stick

Step two

cover the hollow tube with the inside out arms or tail

step three

push the wooden stick into the hollow tube

Step four

The stick turns the arm inside out as it comes out the other end of the tube.

step five

the arm coming out of the tube

step 6

the arm now out of the tube

step seven

push the hollow tube back into the turned out arm

step eight

Push the stuffing through the tube into the arm bit by bit (dont fill the whole tube) until you feel the arm is stuffed move the tube and stuff another wee bit and keep going till the whole arm is filled.

Finished arm!

I used a coffee jar to make this and it was a bit of trial and error as Bakerella says sugar on top but when i tried that the sugar ran down over the chocolate chips and smarties! so I did it again and put sugar on top of the flour.

I am sorry I have not blogged for ages, life got in the way, My mojo disappeared I had teachers gifts to make and saw this on two peas http://twopeasinabucket.kaboose.com/pg.asp?cmd=display&layout_id=1151525
I really loved it but couldn't really be bothered making anything covering tins and so on, until i went into a shop and saw these boxes for 99p bought three and made the teachers gifts quickly as I was not in the mood to scrap, but the teachers were over the moon with them and I felt guilty I didn't put more of an effort into them!

I made this key ring for my daughter and she loves it!! It was one of Amber Harop-Johnstons's class in Design Collective. When she saw the print out of the class she said I want one!!! She took it to school with her and her friends thought it was fabby! so you can guess what they be getting for birthday/Christmas presents!!

Daughter Passed her driving test!

I managed to get an lo done yesterday for the house challenge and I am quite pleased with it cos its of my DD1 when she passed her driving test, she failed three times and the last two times her nerves went and she asked not to do the test and came home breaking her heart as she couldn't overcome her nerves.

Her driving instructor said there was nothing more he could do as she could drive and there was nothing he could teach her, he suggested that I book the test again and not tell her until the day of the test.... I did that and she thought she was going out for her driving lesson when the instructor pulled up ...I told her he was coming to take her to the test centre! she was shocked but went out the door no time to think and did her test and passed!!!

It was the longest hour of my life as I paced up and down thinking if she fails this time it would break her as she had this lovely white Peugeot 206 sitting out the driveway all "pimped" up with pink accessories.
I love the photo of my Eldest daughter as it really shows her happiness in her face. I made her a mini book out of beer mat coaster as a keepsake too.

Yesterday I managed to do 2 LO's was really pleased with this one which is a scraplift on the mojo challenge which can be found here http://mojoholder.blogspot.com/

I then went and done the pencil lines sketch and was a bit disappointed with the result it did not turn out the way I thought it would have. I promised myself that I would use up all my old stash of BG lollipoppe shoppe and colour me silly before I start buying the new BG papers.

Today I hoped to do scrapdolly's class but I got viewers coming tonight and it means I can't scrap because I am a really messy scrapper but getting better as I tidied up after doing these two LO's yesterday but hopefully tomorrow I will get a start her class.

I have been trying this morning to change my blog header without much success...will try again later today after I do the housework.

I have not posted or started my Christmas journal yet as 1st Dec started off badly for us as we got news that my father in law got his leg amputated due an infection which upset the kids, the tree didn't go up until yesterday.

This is the before picture of my Christmas journal, I am going to alter it.

I need to get started on my Christmas journal but I am still waiting for the papers to arrive from one of the UKS sponsors, I ordered them last week and they are still not here yet. I am loving everyones entried in wrttendown.

Its December the 1st and the first day of Shimelle's class! I am so looking forward to getting stuck into my Christmas journal.

First I have to get the christmas tree up this afternoon the kids are excited about it! It kick starts with Cliff Richard "We should be together" playing as soon as they come in from school... I am more excited this year somehow thinking of photos to snap and pages to do for my Christmas Journal.

I also have reached a stumbling block I am not sure how to cover my post bound album for this journal, I will have a wee play this morning see if it is possible to cover it before going back to the drawing board.

Starting December first, I will keep a Christmas journal. In it, I will write something every day to reflect on the holidays of my past, enjoy the holidays of the present and dream about the holidays of my future. Hi, I am really new to this, and here it goes, Its Friday night and the final of Big brother is on which I have not been following the Big Brother but my 3 daughters have and its the final tonight so each of them have invited friends to watch the grand finale... I am surprised to say with about 12 kids in my living room its all quiet here!
